Grenache-Mataro-Graciano
‘El Renegado’ (The Renegade) combines three Spanish varieties of Grenache, Mataro, and Graciano, and the 2010 vintage delivered excellent conditions for these late ripening varieties.
This is a fruit-driven number and a true expression of the Spanish varieties that thrive in the Barossa’s warm climate.
In 2009 we were looking for a vibrant fruit driven wine, after hours of tasting at the blending table we stumbled onto a mix that brought together elegance of Grenache, the power of Mataro and the X-factor of Graciano, a unique blend which stood out from the rest.
To further integrate these varieties in 2010 we Co-fermented the varieties in a single vat, the similarity in ripening time of these varieties offered this rare opportunity to do so.
James Halliday 90 points Diffuse colour; the three varieties have been co-fermented; poached red fruits, clove and spice flavours on the medium-bodied palate the outcome. Attractive example of the style.

An aromatic and intriguing blend of Grenache, Mataro and Graciano, it has bright and lively aromas of spicy red fruits, herbs and tobacco.
Fresh red current and cherry fruit, lively acidity, light tannin and complex lingering spicy flavours give this wine immediate appeal and great compatibility with Indian and Asian cuisine.
